 Roll.50.turkeys

This Thanksgiving math game is used to develop the concept of tens and ones.  Game can be played by one player, partners, or small groups.

The students take turns rolling 2 dice.  Student determines the sum of the dice and puts a pencil mark under the correct number of turkeys starting on the top row.  Student then write the sum of all of the turkeys rolled thus far on the paper.  Student selects a new color to color the turkeys rolled on this turn.  The first student to 50 wins the game.

This year the students worked with buddies to make a cut and paste turkey.  Each student added 3 feathers that told why they were thankful.

Groundhog Assessment

This assesment contains 4 questions of increasing difficulty.

Groundhog Pop Up

Fold a paper plate in half. Color the outside of one half green like grass or cut edge of green semicircle and glue to paper plate.  Poke a hole in the center of the plate and stick a straw up through the hole.  Students draw and cut out a groundhog to attach to the straw.  Students can pull the groundhog down into his burrow or make him pop up.

Groundhog Puppet

Provide students with a large heart template for the head and a small heart template for the ears.  Students draw around hearts and cut out.  Glue two small hearts to the bottom of the large heart for ears.  Students cut two white circles and two black circles for eyes.  The teeth are two white squares.  Attach the head to the bottom of a lunch sack.  Students add details to face and body.

Planting an Avocado for Mom's Day

Students color hearts and bee.  Complete letter by writing "Thank you for . . .".  Letter is included in a sack with 3 toothpicks, plastic cup, and an avocado seed.

Students brainstorm with a partner why they like their mother or significant woman in their lives.  Students record their ideas in six small dialogue balloons.  Students draw a illustration of their mom which are cut out and attached to 16x12 black construction paper. The dialogue balloons are cut out and glued surrounding the illustration.
